Q. When I bought my treadmill, I was told my treadmill is maintenance free. Why should I follow a preventive maintenance schedule?
There is no treadmill today that doesn’t require maintenance. It doesn’t take a mechanic to figure out that anything mechanical has wear items. There is no exception to this rule. They all accumulate dust that will eventually prevent heat escaping from the drive motor, control board and lift motor. Most importantly, the area where the shoe meets the treadmill will eventually need attention.

Q. What kind of lubrication should I use? And how often?
Some manufacturers will try to tell you that they make a 1 kind fits all lubricant. That is not true, different materials that are used to make walking decks and belts require different types of lubrication. Your user manual is the best source of information on this subject. A.I. Fitness carries all kinds of lubrications that are made for different treadmills. You can call our toll free hotline, shop online at www.aifitness.com or submit a ‘parts request form’ and we will be able to provide you with the right product for your treadmill. If we don’t have it, we will tell you who does.
How often a treadmill belt is to be lubricated mostly varies according to usage. At an average, a treadmill belt needs to be lubricated once a year. This is based on the assumption that the treadmill is used for less than 5 hours per week. If the treadmill is used more than 5 hours a week, lubrication is due every 6 months. Again the best source for your treadmill requirements is your user manual.

Q. Why can’t I just use WD-40 or oil to lubricate my walking belt?
Certain lubrications are used for certain treadmills based on the following: - heat reduction, dust and fiber attraction, the ability to dry and melt only when needed, and most importantly, to avoid the belt from slipping if the lube gets to the rollers.
